    Dr. Annapurna Kamath, the Founder-Trustee of Jalaposhan Trust, spearheads a remarkable initiative focused on citizen participation in lake conservation. The organization’s collaborative approach involves local communities, stakeholders, and governmental bodies like BBMP to preserve Jakkur lake. This concerted effort has earned recognition, including the prestigious National Water Mission Award 2019 from the Ministry of Jal Shakthi, applauding citizen and state action in the conservation, augmentation, and preservation of the 700-year-old Jakkur lake. Additionally, the initiative was honored with the EGA award for UN Sustainability Goals 2020. Jakkur lake, now celebrated as a model of successful conservation, attracts visits from bureaucrats, researchers, journalists, and students annually.

    Dr. Annapurna’s role as a social initiator extends beyond conservation efforts; she actively engages with the Jakkur community to foster holistic community development through citizen participation, empowering them to enrich their surroundings. Furthermore, through initiatives like the Satya Anantham, Dr. Annapurna endeavors to promote nature-based programs in corporates and schools, fostering a deeper connection with nature and instilling a sense of responsibility towards preserving our natural heritage.

  • Dr. H. Chandrashekar
    Dr. H. Chandrashekar
    Founder-Trustee, AltTech Foundation

    Hariharan Chandrashekar is an economist by training who turned to business in the late 1980s with a mission to mainstream and accelerate sustainability directions for watersheds, water and energy management, as well as water- and energy-efficient buildings with no Capex addition and reduced Opex.

    He is co-Founder and Trustee of AltTech Foundation (2003), Prem Jain Memorial Trust (2018), Academy for Mountain Environics (1991), and BCIL (1994). He is also a Senior Fellow and National Executive Member of the CII Indian Green Building Council (from 2003) and a Governing Council Member at INHAF.

    He has striven to decentralise solutions that can make cities sustainable. He mentors solutions for old and new buildings and promotes education to produce green business managers (SAANSS.com). He was instrumental in driving a successful public campaign in Bengaluru for saving 1000 crore litres of water (WOW Action Forum) in 2021. In partnership with Canada India Centre Carleton Univ and the UK High Commission, he currently leads directions that nurture technology from the world over for solutioning sustainability in Indian cities. He mentors a new crop of green technologies, and sustainability professionals. He’s also advisor for the Paris-based Les Ateliers Maitrise d’oeuvre urbaine (‘Workshops for Urban Project Management’) on greening cities in Africa. His writings on the economics and ecology of urbanising have influenced substantial change.

    Srikanth Narasimhan is Co-Founder & General Secretary of Bengaluru NavaNirmana Party (BNP), a new-age unique political party focused on Bengaluru and its Municipal Governance. Through BNP, Srikanth aims to build a citizen-participative & transparent model of governance at the city level. The Founder & General Secretary of Bangalore Apartments’ Federation (BAF), he built the largest citizen group in the country, which today comprises 850 apartment complexes in Bengaluru as members representing almost about 6 lakh citizens. Srikanth is extremely passionate about social & civic issues; he has brought in a lot of interventions in the areas of waste water management, water conservation, solid waste management, energy conservation etc., specifically relating to apartment communities.

    Srikanth is also an entrepreneur- the co-founder of Veda Corporate Advisors, a leading investment banking firm in India. Before co-founding Veda, Srikanth worked with Ernst & Young, ICICI Venture, TATA Motors and TATA Technologies. Srikanth has an MBA from IIM Bangalore and holds an Engineering degree from BITS Pilani.
