Remembering John Turner- An Online Tribute Part: 01
British architect and theorist John Francis Charlewood Turner is recognized for his work on neighborhood development and informal self-help housing in Peru, the US, and the UK. He has been called the most important post-war writer on housing in the developing world for his work in the 1960s and 1970s, and he was a “principal architect” of World Bank and UN policies on self-help urban assistance to developing nations. His “championing of the rights of people to build, manage and sustain their own shelter and communities” earned him the 1988 Right Livelihood Award.
