Architect on her feet

In an era, where every human being on this earth is struggling and surviving day-to-day life with the multiple unknown transitions ongoing around, we all need to be accountable for responsibilities, duties towards building and developing resilience as a community and as a family. Ar. Gita Balakrishnan, has been working in alignment with this thought in mind and heart all through her career and that is how Ethos, a platform for up-and-coming professionals to engage with each other and to empower them, was founded in 2002. It is an initiative to bridge the gap between students and professionals from the ACED fraternity (Architecture, Construction, Engineering, and Design).

By her astonishing, inclusive presence and engagement in the ACED fraternity, she is able to identify, understand, encourage and ignite numerous young minds. Recently, as one of the four verticals of Ethos, and an initiative under the Ethos Foundation, Gita introduced Arcause as a platform to shed light on the role of the Architecture and Design fraternity, their contributions to society, and issues that they aim to address through design. She took up the challenge of walking a total of 350 hours of walking through 7 states, crossing 849 cities, towns and villages, traversing a 1700km distance in which she interacted with different layers of society to create awareness about the Social Responsibilities of the ACED fraternity through the Campaign Walk for Arcause. The walk also commemorates the milestone of Ethos completing 20 remarkable years in June 2022, and celebrates the spirit and architectural magnificence of India after 75 years of independence.

India is a country with diversity, believing in unity and has been demonstrating it evidently throughout history on different occasions. Considering the event is open for young minds from different paths and not just for architects, it is a great occasion to bring them together and inspire them to be accountable for their thoughts, responsibilities towards society and the environment. Gita,  who is striving and working towards the same through all her efforts, will be able to give insights about the realities, grassroot level understanding, and learnings from her experiences from the Walk for Arcause. As this is also a platform where significant personalities from the different work lines are coming together to share their thoughts, experiences towards a common interest, together they will definitely ignite minds and share their learnings to create a better, responsible nation.
