SUMMARY:Water and City: Dr. Anjali K. Mohan (Urban Planner) in Conversation with Shri S. Vishwanath (Water Expert)
DESCRIPTION:Habitat Forum (INHAF) invites you to the inaugural episode of its 5 Part new Conversation Series on Water and City.\nDr. Anjali K. Mohan (Urban Planner) in Conversation with Shri S. Vishwanath (Water Expert)\nJoin us on Monday, May 06, 2024, at 6 PM IST\nThe Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that several cities in peninsular India are likely to experience intensified water stress due to abnormally high temperatures. Even as the country braces itself for an exceptionally harsh summer, India’s expanding cities fueled by unplanned urbanisation are grappling with multiple manifestations of changing climates, water scarcity being at the forefront. Fragmentation of city ecologies, changing climates, extreme events are amongst the most visible manifestations of unplanned urbanisation in India. Bangalore is no exception to this trend. It has been in the news for its soaring temperatures and water scarcity, primarily due to alarming rates of groundwater depletion. Equally well reported are the possible (re)solutions to Bangalore’s current crisis.\nAs part of the Water and City series organised by INHAF, Dr. Anjali Karol Mohan and Shri S. Vishwanath will be in conversation to discuss the burgeoning crises of water scarcity in Indian cities. Using the case of Bangalore, the conversation will focus on the immediate and short (re) solutions as well as proactive, systemic measures to avert the challenges in the long-term.\n
